Sleep Day 1

It wasn't easy, but he fell asleep. It took him three hours. So this is what I did. I let him cry for five minutes and went back in and comforted him, then ten, then fifteen. After the first half hour or so I picked him back up and nursed him a little more, then just to make sure he was really tired, put him in his crib again. He really was; he fell asleep in my arms. After that, his crying was less terrible. I felt really bad for the first half hour. Even though he was asleep, he was doing these little shuddering breath sobs in his sleep, but he didn't do it after he woke up for a diaper change. I finally went to sleep at midnight.

He woke up twice in the middle of the night, once with a full diaper, and twice with a semi full diaper, but I got him up and fed him anyway. The first time it took him a half hour to fall back asleep, with one check in by me. The second time it took him about 20 minutes, but I checked in more, mainly because the baby monitor wasn't working. He had the cord wrapped around his arm and had somehow turned the power off. So after my mind automatically turned to all the bad things that could happen, I put it on a box next to the crib.

He woke up this morning at 7:30, not his usual 6, which was nice. I needed the sleep, and maybe he did, too. A little less than 7 hours of sleep, considering how long I had to stay up to feed him in the middle of the night. Better than I had expected.

And he's fine! Right now he's scattering all of his baby books all over the floor and trying to pry the outlet covers off. He woke up a smiley baby.

  1. Sounds like a good, solid plan! Not bad for night #1. I hope night #2 is even better!
